Dr. Kaan Agartan is associate professor of Sociology in the department of Sociology and Criminology. He is the author of "Gezi: The Making of a New Political Community in Turkey" (Edinburgh University Press, 2024) and the co-editor (with Ayşe Buğra) of "Reading Karl Polanyi for the Twenty-first Century: Market Economy as a Political Project" (Palgrave, 2007). His forthcoming book "Reimagining Radical Democracy in the Global South: Emerging Paradigms from Colombia and Turkey" (co-authored with Camilo Tamayo Gomez) will be published by Cambridge University Press. Dr. Agartan also authored and co-authored publications that appeared in academic journals including New Global Studies, Global Labour Journal, Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, Sociology Compass, European Journal of Turkish Studies, Journal of International Affairs, New Perspectives on Turkey, and Capital & Class. His current research focuses on the relationship between racial capitalism, social movements, and radical democracy.
