Leah Van Vaerenewyck earned an MFA from Lesley University and has taught various composition, first-year seminar, and literature courses in Boston-area universities since 2012.  Her research interests include first-year composition, inquiry-based learning, global literatures, and decolonizing pedagogies. She has held fellowships with Education Pioneers (2016) and is a current (2024) and past (2019) recipient of the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship for Higher Education. Her scholarship has appeared in English Journal, Comparative Education Review, Journal of College Reading and Learning, and Literacy Research and Instruction. She has served as session chair at NCTE annual conventions and recently served as an Assistant Editor for Best of the Journals in Rhetoric and Composition 2023, which is forthcoming from Parlor Press.  She has been in residence at the Vermont Studio Center, and her creative work appears in publications such as Slippage Lit, Still Point Arts Quarterly, and Thimble Literary Magazine.
