Dr. Bihler teaches modern U.S., European, and world history, as well as secondary history education methods. Her historical research focuses on the diaspora of refugees from Nazi Germany and she is the author of Cities of Refuge: German Jews in London and New York, 1935-1945 (SUNY Press, 2018). Other areas of research interest include the study of race and religion in historical migration patterns and resettlement. She has received research fellowships from the British Council, the DAAD, and the Leo Baeck Institute and is currently writing a series of articles on History Education. Each spring, she supervises social studies student teachers across Eastern Massachusetts, while also teaching undergraduate and graduate history courses. Prior to pursuing her doctorate in German-Jewish history, Dr. Bihler was a middle and high school social studies teacher in Connecticut Public Schools.
