FSU's Nu Theta Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi is recognized for exceptional service to the community
For the second consecutive year, Framingham State University’s Nu Theta Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (the National Hispanic Honors Society) was chosen by the Sigma Delta Pi National Executive Committee as an Honor Chapter for its work during the academic year.
Sigma Delta Pi consists of over 645 university chapters in 49 states. Only 13 chapters were chosen nationwide for this prestigious recognition.
This year, the group leveraged a new partnership with the FSU’s Center for Inclusive Excellence to host a movie night and three Spanish Language Tables, where hosted lunch or dinner and practiced Spanish with Spanish-speaking members of the community.
For the second year in a row, the group also hosted two events with educators from the ChileMass program. The students are education majors in Chile who come to Framingham as part of an exchange program with FSU’s English Language Program (ELP) at FSU.
Despite being a relatively small chapter, Nu Theta Chapter was able to promote and put on several events to the larger FSU community, which helped them earn recognition as an Honor Chapter.
Members of the group during 2023-2024 were: Emily Ferrucci, Alexandra Mrotek, Jaqueline Henriquez, Laura Leiva, Jasmine Castillo, Caroline Kimball and Zophie Greenwald.
The group is seeking to expand its membership during the coming year and will be advised by Spanish Professor, Dr. Emilce Cordeiro. You can learn more about the group on their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/fsu_sigmadeltapi
