As Veterans Day approaches, we take time to recognize and thank the men and women who have served our country. Their sacrifices, commitment, and willingness to put service before self, deserve our gratitude; not just on November 11, but every day of the year. But honoring veterans means more than saying thank you. It also means recognizing the remarkable skills, experiences, and perspectives they bring to our communities, workplaces, and college campuses.

Veterans arrive at college with something that cannot be taught in a classroom: real-world experience. Military service develops leadership, discipline, adaptability, teamwork, problem-solving, and the ability to perform under pressure. These qualities translate directly into academic success and professional achievement. Veterans also bring diverse perspectives that enrich classroom discussions, challenge assumptions, and benefit fellow students and faculty alike.

At Framingham State University, we recognize that the transition from military service to civilian life, and particularly to higher education, can present unique opportunities and challenges. Returning to the classroom may mean navigating a new environment, balancing family and professional responsibilities, or pursuing a career that looks very different from military service. That journey should never have to be taken alone. Our goal is to help veterans and military-connected students navigate the college experience, connect with available resources, and make the most of the opportunities that higher education provides.

This Veterans Day, let us celebrate not only what our veterans have given to our country, but also what they continue to give to our communities. Their service does not define the limits of their future; it provides a foundation upon which to build it. To all who have served, and to the families who have supported them, thank you. Your next chapter matters, and there is a place for you at Framingham State University
