Specialize in Teaching Your Favorite Subject
If your interest in teaching is specific to a certain content area, then you should consider Framingham State’s Initial Licensure program in Secondary Education. Programs in secondary education are offered in Visual Art, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Systems, English, History and Mathematics. You can earn your teaching license by majoring in these subjects at FSU and pairing it with the relevant secondary education minor. You will then be prepared to start your teaching career at the middle or high school level.
Our graduates go on to teaching positions in public and private schools as well as a host of other education-related positions in the field. It’s quite possible your first job offer will come from the school or district where you complete your student teaching placements. School principals tell us that they have a long tradition of hiring Framingham State alumni because of our reputation for preparing future teachers with the relevant skills and mindsets they will need.
Return to FSU for an M.Ed. after graduation to deepen your content knowledge, pedagogical portfolio, and more. Study special education, Teaching English as a Second Language, or continue in your content area. Some of our alumni go on to higher leadership positions in their school districts or into teacher education programs as college faculty members after earning a doctorate.
