Welcome to the Office of Academic Affairs. Academics are at the heart of every university, and our mission at Framingham State University is not only to help students earn their degrees, but also to prepare them for the world of work and thoughtful civic engagement. Our faculty are highly engaged teachers and scholars, who are dedicated to helping all of our students achieve their educational and personal goals. We are deeply committed to equity and inclusion in our approach to all aspects of students’ lives. At FSU, we are concerned for students not just as learners but as people with complex and differing lives, needs, and obligations.
Our faculty employ vigorous learning strategies that extend well beyond the classroom. These include faculty-led study trips both within the United States and in many other parts of the world, interdisciplinary study, creative activities, civic engagement both locally and nationally, and student/professor partnered research. FSU is a vital part of the Commonwealth and local communities. It has established numerous centers and institutes where students, faculty, and staff provide professional outreach to the local and regional community.
At every step, we encourage students to be active participants in their own learning process, so that upon graduation they are prepared for the challenges of their chosen career. Additionally, academic departments offer students opportunities to join clubs, complete internships, and work closely with faculty through joint projects or independent study. The Commonwealth Honors Program provides nurturing, guidance, and rigor for highly motivated students.
Faculty actively encourage students to utilize numerous resources across campus whose goals are to help foster academic success, workforce preparedness, and well-being such as the Henry Whittemore Library; the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA); the Career Services and Employer Relations Office; the Health Center and Counseling Center; a robust program of athletics, including both NCAA and club sports, and an excellent fitness center. Our beautiful, small campus also offers state of the art residence halls and dining services. We encourage you to explore our website to view the many opportunities we offer.
Sincerely,
Kristen Porter-Utley, Ph.D.
