Let Your Creativity Soar with Art & Music
At Framingham State, we believe that an understanding of the arts is crucial. Arts education plays a vital role in one’s personal and professional development while providing appreciation for other cultures and strengthening communities. As a student in the Art & Music Department, you will experience a collaborative, innovative and interdisciplinary learning environment which focuses on academic excellence in the areas of visual art, art history, art education, music history and music theory.
As part of a liberal arts institution, we encourage hybrid and tangential relations with other fields as a way of aiding the student in identifying the most effective way to articulate their individual vision. Our program is designed to help students pursue creative endeavors while also imparting specific skills appropriate to the various disciplines of fine arts, design, art education, and scholarly and professional endeavors in art history, museum studies and music.
Our Department of Art and Music offers the following undergraduate majors:
- Art History
- Studio Art - Concentrations include Art Education, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
Students may also minor in the following: Art, Art History, Museum Studies and Music.
Our faculty are practicing designers, artists, and musicians, who are eager to guide students both professionally and academically towards a fulfilling career in the arts and beyond. While 62% of artists are self-employed, many of our graduates find work with museums, galleries, schools, advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers, and movie studios.

Ryan Severance. BA in Studio Art (Painting), 2013; MFA, Maryland Institute College of Art, 2017.The most valuable lesson Framingham State taught me was the crucial role that interacting with peers and mentors plays in art-making.
