Explore What’s Possible

College is more than classes and textbooks—it’s about discovering what inspires you. Whether you love science, business, education, sports, or social change, there’s a path waiting to be uncovered.

What’s it going to cost?

When it comes to planning for college, you’re probably thinking what is this going to cost me? The Framingham State Tuition Promise guarantees any admitted Massachusetts undergraduate student whose household income is $85,000 or less will pay zero in tuition and fees after applying their financial aid grants. This does not include expenses like housing and meals, but additional financial aid is available for those who qualify.

We’ve created a helpful page you can use to get a better sense of what Framingham State would cost you, depending on your family’s circumstances. You can find our tuition and fees broken down here, just remember that most students who apply for financial aid do not pay full price.

What FSU Really Costs

Location, location, location

One of the advantages of Framingham State is our location, just 20 miles outside of Boston, on a beautiful, safe New England campus. We often hear from students that we are far enough from home to provide a level of independence, but close enough to swing back on a weekend to connect with friends and family and get a homecooked meal! Whether you are looking to live on campus or commute, Framingham State offers the ideal environment to learn and socialize. You’ll find hundreds of large and small businesses minutes from our campus for job and internship opportunities and public transportation for those treks into Boston and quick trips around the MetroWest area for shopping, eating and entertainment!

Visit

Visit campuses (virtually or in person). Even casual visits can give you a feel for whether the campus feels like a fit for you. Ask questions. No question is too small or too silly.

Make a List

Start a list of what matters to you. Size? Location? Programs? Cost? If you’re not sure yet, by visiting different types of colleges you’ll start to narrow it down.

Bonus Tip!

Here are some great questions to ask your campus tour guide

  • What’s been your favorite class so far and why?
  • What’s the food really like here?
  • What do students do for fun on weekends?
  • What surprised you most when you started here?

College Search Tips for Parents and Families

Start the Conversation Early

Ask open-ended questions about what you and your student values in a college—location, size, interests, goals. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about starting the dialogue.

Focus on Fit, Not Just Name Recognition

A college that supports your student’s academic, social, and emotional well-being will have a far greater impact than one chosen solely for prestige.

Talk Honestly About Finances

Set realistic expectations early. Understanding your family’s budget can help narrow the college list as well as reducing stress and disappointment later on.

Encourage Independence (With Support)

This is your student’s journey—but they’ll benefit from your steady guidance along the way.
