First Year Applicants

Framingham State's first-year application is test-optional and requires just a high school transcript (or GED/HiSET results). No personal statement or letters of recommendation are needed, though you're welcome to submit them if you'd like. Apply through the Common Application or FSU's own online application with a $50 application fee; fee waivers are available through the Common App, College Board, NACAC, a school counselor, or an official campus visit.
 

How do I apply to Framingham State as a first-year student?

You’re a first-year applicant if:

• You’re still in high school (even if you completed dual enrollment credits), or
• You graduated from high school or earned your GED, and didn't enroll in college-level coursework.

Note: Service members or veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces should apply as transfer applicants.

*Students who have previously applied to Framingham State, but did not enroll, should complete our Reactivation Form. After receipt, the admissions staff will contact you regarding specific application requirements. 

1. Review the application process.

Before starting the application, be sure to review the application process, deadlines, and requirements. This will help you better understand what we expect from our applicants.

2. Complete your application.

You can apply to FSU in one of two ways – the Common Application or the FSU Application. On the application, you’ll be able to choose your major and list your extracurricular activities, honors, and awards.

1. Common Application (For entry in Fall and Spring 2027 - opens August 15th)
   The Common Application can be accessed through the CA website, and may be used to apply for the Day Division only. 

   Please note that the Common Application will no longer be available after June 30. Students wishing to apply for admission after this date must submit an application through our FSU application.

    

2. The FSU Application (For entry in Fall 2026. Fall and Spring 2027 application opens August 15th)

   The FSU Application can be accessed through the admissions portal, and may be used to apply for the Day or Evening Divisions. 

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

Your high school transcript will need to be submitted, and should include course grades for grades 9 through 11. A copy of your courses in progress for grade 12 should also be submitted (these courses can be listed on the transcript or application). Course grades from first and second quarter of grade 12 should be submitted by your school counselor when available.

GED/HISET RESULTS

If you have completed a General Education Equivalency (GED) or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), the testing agency must send an official score report. Your official high school transcript for the period high school was attended will also need to be submitted by your school.

STANDARDIZED TESTING POLICY

FSU is test-optional, meaning you may choose to apply with or without SAT or ACT scores. 

If you choose to submit SAT or ACT scores, official test results must be sent to FSU directly from the testing agency.

It is your responsibility to have all required materials forwarded to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the priority deadline. 

3. Pay the application fee.

When you submit the application, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable fee of $50 or provide an application fee waiver. The application fee or application fee waiver must be submitted in order for your application to be reviewed.

You may apply for an application fee waiver through the Common Application, College Board, NACAC, or by school counselor request. We also provide a fee waiver if you participate in an official campus visit.

4. See if you have additional requirements.

If you plan to pursue a certain major or you’re an international student, you may have a few more things to do.

5. Check your application status.

Once you’ve submitted your application, use the admissions portal to check its status. If you applied through the FSU Application, you can use that account to view your status. If you applied through the Common Application, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to access the admissions portal.
