Framingham State University was founded in 1839 as the nation’s first public college dedicated to the preparation of teachers. Today, you would be hard pressed to find a school district in Massachusetts that isn’t employing several of our alumni as early education, elementary, middle school or high school educators, as well as principals, special education teachers, reading and language specialists, and more.
We offer a broad array of education programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, preparing you for your initial and full teaching license, in addition to post-graduate certificates.
Our highly regarded and diverse faculty are outstanding educators, who will prepare and inspire you for this remarkable and rewarding profession. You’ll experience a curriculum rooted in anti-racism and you will learn from professors who have expertise in teacher policy advocacy, racial equity, and social emotional learning.
During your time at FSU, you will participate in over 400 hours of field experiences in a variety of classrooms to help you discover where you’d like to specialize. Your supervising practitioners and faculty members will observe your progress and provide you with continuous support and feedback.
The Child Development Lab and Early Childhood Center located right on campus serve as a teaching laboratory for our students as well as an opportunity to conduct research in child development, psychology, and sociology. Our MTEL (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure) policy is also one of the most flexible, we offer guidance for when you should take the MTEL and free prep courses to ensure your readiness. We know you will leave feeling prepared for a rewarding future in education.
Approved for licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), our education program is ranked at the highest national level by the U.S. Department of Education (Title II first quartile).
