Softball Wins Conference, Advances in NCAA Tournament

May 20, 2024

Framingham State University’s women’s softball team won its third consecutive MASCAC Championship earlier this month, defeating top seed Westfield State twice on May 12th by scores of 3-0 and 10-2.

Star pitcher Ally Moran tossed a 1-hit shutout in the opener and tournament MVP Gwendolyn Carpenter launched a grand slam in the second game.

The win earned the Rams a spot in the NCAA tournament, where they would go on to snap the 30-game win streak of Husson University with a 3-1 victory in the first round behind another pitching gem by Moran.

The team’s incredible run ended with a 6-1 loss to Williams College, followed by tight 2-0 loss in a rematch with Husson University.

Six Rams were recognized with All-MASCAC honors in voting conducted by the league's coaches.

Senior first baseman Kelsey McGuill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior outfielder Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.) have been selected to the All-MASCAC First Team.

Junior second baseman Shelby Roode (Ashaway, R.I.), junior shortstop Brooke Grassia (Danvers, Mass.) and senior pitchers Ally Moran (Wilmington, Mass.) and Caroline Hughes (Canton, Mass.) have been selected to the All-MASCAC Second Team.

The 2024 Rams finished the season 25-20 overall and 11-3 in league play. The softball team has now finished as regular season or tournament champions every year since 2017 (the 2019 season was cancelled due to COVID-19).
