In our democratic society, the Legislature frames and constructs the law, while the Judiciary interprets the law and imposes the necessary penalties upon transgressors. It is the Police Officer who has the sworn duty to directly apply and execute the law fairly and objectively for the benefit of an entire community. The Framingham State University Police Department has the direct responsibility for law enforcement, preservation of public peace, reduction in the opportunity to commit crimes, and for the effective delivery of a wide variety of police and security services within the boundaries of Framingham State University.
Developing and maintaining a safe and secure environment is the responsibility of the entire academic community. As a member of this community our department strives to gain and maintain the trust of the community by holding itself to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and integrity when performing its duties.
Goals and Objectives:
A. Protecting Life and Property:
Department Personnel must, take a personal interest in and dedicate themselves in the elimination of risk to persons and property on campus.
B. Preserve the Peace:
Department Personnel must, maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration among members of the campus community in general and specifically among the resident student population.
C. Apprehend Criminal Offenders and Judicially Refer Student Violators of the Code of Conduct:
Department Personnel must, identify and apprehend an offender and make the appropriate referrals to court and/or to the campus judicial system, when a criminal act or a violation of the student conduct code has been committed or when prevention fails.
D. Recovery of Lost or Stolen Property:
Department Personnel must attempt to find, identify, recover and return lost or stolen property to its rightful owner.
E. Performing Required Services:
Department Personnel must, include the unique functions relative to this campus, i.e. Medical assistance, escorts, transports, admits, lockouts. All required and unique services must be performed in a prompt, efficient, and courteous manner.
F. Maintaining a Sense of Community Security and Confidence in our Department:
Department Personnel must engender and maintain a feeling of confidence in the department, safety and security among the campus community through professionalism in the performance of all his/her duties.
All members of this department are expected to actively participate in the achievement of the department's goals and objectives. It is only through the entire department's collective efforts that the department's mission can and will be accomplished.
