Being a Good Sport: Educators' Roles in Promoting Safe Athletic Environments for LGBTQ Youth
Monday, 3/20, 1:30 pm in the Center for Inclusive Excellence (library)-

Scott Greenspan, M.S., Doctoral Student in School Psychology, University of Massachusetts Amherst, brings his research on sports and LGBTQ youth. Physical activity and sport involvement are linked with immense benefits for youth including greater health outcomes, academic performance, and social skills. However, many LGBTQ youths feel unsafe in school athletic environments such as physical education classes and locker rooms (GLSEN, 2016). This talk will explore this critical issue, overview the latest research and policy suggestions to best support LGBTQ youth in the context of school athletics, and provide practice suggestions for school professionals.
