Advising

Students are assigned to a faculty member as your primary advisor. Academic advising is a key component of our work in the education department. Students should communicate with their advisors at least once or twice a semester. Your advisor can help you in many ways:

  • Choosing a major and/or minor
  • Selecting courses before each fall and spring semester
  • Summer, winter, and transfer courses
  • Independent Study, Honors Thesis, and Internship courses
  • Four-year completion plans
  • Field placement applications
  • MTEL preparation
  • Career options
  • Graduate programs
  • Getting involved on campus
  • Organization and time management
  • Adjustment to college life
  • Connecting with other resources (see links below)

You can find your advisor’s name and email address in Degreeworks or Starfish. You can learn more about your advisor’s background and interests on the department website. You can also contact the Advising Center at any time to meet with the advising staff and access their web resources. If you are an undeclared student who is considering a major or minor in the education department, please contact the department chair with questions or to declare the major.
