The Education Department offers numerous awards each spring to graduating students who have demonstrated excellence during their time at Framingham State University. Faculty members submit nominations to the awards committee in February, and awards are granted at the annual awards ceremony each spring. Below are the descriptions of each award:
Early Childhood Education Program Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student in the graduating class with a major in early childhood education. This award recognizes a student for their academic performance, leadership, professional development, and service to the department and university.
Elementary Education Program Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student in the graduating class with a major in elementary education. This award recognizes a student for their academic performance, leadership, professional development, and service to the department and university.
Secondary Education Program Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student completing a licensure program in secondary education. This award recognizes a student for their academic performance, leadership, professional development, and service to the department and university.
Child and Family Studies Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student in the Child and Family Studies program. This award recognizes a student for their academic performance, leadership, professional development, and service to the department and university.
Outstanding Scholar /Athlete Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student in the graduating class who excelled academically, athletically, as a citizen of the department, and who represented positive outcomes of dedication, hard work, and service.
Dr. Diane Lowe Literacy Award: This award recognizes a high achieving student in the graduating class who exhibits a commitment to teaching literacy and has exhibited great promise in literacy practices.
Department Service Award: This award is designed to recognize a student in the graduating class who has made significant contributions to the Department of Education. Qualifications for this award include being an officer for at least one club or organization.
Student Teaching Award: This award is designed to recognize a student in the graduating class who has excelled in the student teaching practicum.
Outstanding Honors Thesis in Education: This award is designed to recognize a student in the graduating class for excellence in their Honors Thesis.
Outstanding Supervising Practitioner Award: This award is designed to recognize excellence in the Supervision of Student Teachers. This award is presented annually to a Supervising Practitioner.
