Field Study I Application Packet

Undergraduate licensure candidates complete this experience as part of EDUC 200 Education in American Society with Field Study I. Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure (PBTL) candidates complete this experience by enrolling in EDIL 800 Field Study I. PBTL candidates typically take EDIL 800 Field Study I while enrolled in or following EDIL 910 Education Foundations or EDIL 920 Learning and Human Development. The Field Study I experience is completed in a non-charter public school classroom appropriate for the license which the candidate is seeking. Candidates spend a minimum of three hours per week at the placement site for a total of 36 or more hours over the course of the semester.

Field Study II Application Packet

The Early Childhood Field Study II experience is part of EDUC 320 The Young Child: Emergent Literacy and is completed in the Jeanne M. Canelli Child Development Lab on campus. Licensure candidates participate in the CDL a minimum of three hours per week for a total of 36 or more hours over the course of the semester.

Licensing regulations for the CDL preschool require that candidates undergo a CORI check, a DSS background check, and fingerprinting.  The CORI/background check form is in the application packet. You must submit:

  1. your background check form,
  2. along with a copy of your license or passport

in a sealed envelope with your signature across the flap.

Fingerprinting instructions will be distributed once the background check is completed, approximately one week prior to the start of the semester.

Field Study III  Application Packet

The Early Childhood Field Study III experience is completed with two courses taken concurrently: EDUC 374 Early Childhood Curriculum: Mathematics and Science and EDUC 376 Early Childhood Curriculum: Reading, Social Studies and Special Needs. Candidates spend a minimum of six hours per week in a first or second grade classroom in a non-charter public school for a total of 72 or more hours over the course of the semester.

Student Teaching Application Packet

The Early Childhood Student Teaching practicum is a full-time, full-semester experience in two different non-charter public schools classrooms. The first portion of the practicum, which lasts a minimum of 100 hours over approximately six weeks, is spent in a kindergarten classroom. The student teacher completes the second part of the experience, a minimum of 200 hours, in a first or second grade classroom. The Early Childhood Student Teaching practicum is offered both fall and spring semesters. In each setting, the student teacher is assigned to an early childhood classroom teacher who will serve as the supervising practitioner. The supervising practitioner must meet the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's requirements in order to serve in this capacity. Student teachers are also supervised by a program supervisor, a FSU Education Department faculty member, who visits the student teacher in his or her classroom on a regular basis. The supervising practitioner and program supervisor provide feedback, support, and evaluation of the student teacher.
